New Artist Profile: Freelance Whales
I was drafting a CMJ re-cap post (a few days late, don’t mind me! I’ve been recuperating from a CMJ week concussion!), with Freelance Whales very much included, when fellow a Duke alum music blogger beat me to the punch. They put on a great live show, and I too am really feeling their sound. Check them out below:
This band from Queens is really doing it for me. They formed late last year and just might become one of the bands of the year! They typically have electro/synth-heavy tones with a smooth voice that classifies it as pop. They tend to make music out of anything they can possibly find and make noise with, which is always a plus in my opinion-cheers to creativity! Their common instuments: harmonium, banjo, glockenspiel, synths, guitars, bass, drums, and waterphone. All 5 featured tracks are from their debut album “Weathervanes,” released in August of this year.
